Long Ranged Attack

Long Ranged Attacks are methodical takeovers of blockchain platforms. Also called History Attacks & Rewrite Attacks, Long Ranged Attacks are scenarios when a malicious actor creates an entirely new chain stemming from the Genesis Block and switches out the mainchain and their malicious chain.

These attacks are present in all environments, however, they are more worrisome in Proof-Of-Stake than Proof-Of-Work environments due to the security vulnerabilities of weak subjectivity and costless simulation present in PoS.
