Libra is a permission consortium style blockchain ecosystem proposed by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, that is intended to act as global digital payment rails.
Built top-down from scratch by the Facebook engineers, the platform and it’s according currency have been heavily scrutinized by regulatory bodies worldwide but have found much support from partnering technology companies. The platform and technology are promised to be open source and geared towards mass adoption. Libra has presented the world with some novel technologies & protocols including:
Libra currency – an asset that is backed by and pegged to reserves of fiat currency baskets.
LibraBFT – a pbft styled consensus mechanism that operates like a Delegated-Proof-of Stake environment.
Permissioned entry – a healthy $100,000,000 price tag is associated with the right to become a validator node on the Libra Network.
