Within the cryptocurrency and digital asset industry, the “halving” also sometimes called “halvening” is an economic event that is built into crypto-systems as a method against inflation.
Typically found in Proof-of-Work blockchain environments with a known max supply (such as Bitcoin, Raven, Litecoin, etc), a halving is an event that takes place cyclicly on a known schedule when the consensus block reward is reduced in half, thereby reducing the supply’s inflation ration in half until no more coins can be extracted.
