Crowdfunding is a mechanism of fund raising that is directed at the common public. Projects that have done all the pre-requisite footwork in establishing a company and an idea can raise money to launch their venture through traditional methods such as bank loans, the backing of financial institutions, or venture capital. However, it is not always possible to rely on finding funding from those sources, this is where crowdfunding comes in. Projects can present their ideas to the general public and solicit money in return for something (usually a product or service).

Within the world of crypto and digital assets, crowdfunding is conducted through a digital-asset offering such as an ICO / STO. ICO’s (initial-coin-offerings) are un-regulated methods, meaning that they offer not government protection to the investors. STO’s (Security-token-offerings) are the regulated counterpart of ICO’s, thus offering the investors some level of protection on their investments.
