Within the context of cryptocurrency, a block is an immutable digital file that stores information regarding any and all activity on the network.
Each block consists of:
– A timestamp
– Merkle Tree Hash
– Reference Block Height
– Digital Signature from miners
– All confirmed transactions
This structure helps maintain chronological sequencing as does a page in a book.
A block also doubles as a unit to measure the length of a blockchain & as well as an alternative timestamp.
